Why We Built This Site
Public access in Virginia depends on both the record and its custodian. The Surry County Sheriff's Office keeps the reports it creates. General District Court handles lower criminal matters and felony preliminary hearings, while the Circuit Court clerk maintains felony and appeal files. The Virginia Department of State Police runs the central criminal-history repository and consent-based SP-167 process. Riverside Regional Jail, the Virginia Department of Corrections, and the state registry add separate custody and public-safety records. This site organizes those official routes, including fees, forms, and contact points.
What You Will Find Here
- Local record routes: how to search Surry County court cases and request sheriff-created reports
- Official check steps: how Virginia name checks, consent rules, and fingerprint processes differ
- Office details: which Surry, regional, and state custodian holds each type of record
- Record relief basics: where Virginia expungement and sealing rules send a person seeking relief
What We Cannot Do
This is a privately run reference site, not part of a Virginia court, sheriff's office, police department, or state agency. Those boundaries matter:
- We cannot run an official background check or pull a criminal record for anyone
- We cannot file expungement petitions, records requests, or any other paperwork on your behalf
- We cannot issue certified copies of any criminal record, court document, or rap sheet
- We cannot give legal advice or explain how a specific charge or case applies to you
- We cannot promise that a published phone number, fee, address, or procedure has not changed
Only the issuing sheriff, court, jail, or Virginia Department of State Police can provide an official record. This resource can identify the custodian, but cannot issue the document.
Search Partners
Outside providers power some search boxes. A provider controls its service, prices, data handling, and results. If a visitor chooses a paid product after using one of those tools, this site may receive a referral payment. That support helps fund access to the reference pages, but it does not give this site control over the provider or make its output an official Surry County record.
