Terms of Use

These conditions govern each visit, search, and use of material on Surry County Criminal History. Accessing the website means accepting every term below. A visitor who does not agree must stop using the service.

NO FCRA USE. This privately operated website has no government affiliation. Neither the site nor its advertising partners provides a service intended for credit, employment, insurance, housing, or another decision governed by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Its purpose is to identify official criminal-record resources in Surry County and Virginia. It is neither a private investigation firm nor a consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

This is a private reference site with no connection to a public office. It neither stores official criminal records nor retrieves records, performs official checks, or files documents for a user.

The pages identify custodians such as the Surry County Sheriff's Office, local courts, the Virginia Department of State Police, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. Some pages also connect visitors to independently operated search tools.

Public-office access is governed by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, Va. Code § 2.2-3700 et seq., while dissemination from Virginia's central criminal-history repository is separately limited by Va. Code § 19.2-389. Neither law turns this private website into an official custodian.

2. Rules for Using This Site

Use of the site is conditioned on an agreement not to:

  • Break any federal, state, or local law while using this site
  • Use information you find here to stalk, harass, or threaten anyone
  • Base hiring, housing, lending, or insurance decisions on content from this site
  • Try to break into our systems or gain access you are not supposed to have
  • Run bots, scrapers, or automated tools against our pages
  • Do anything that slows the site down or blocks other people from using it

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

Information found here or through a linked service may not be used to harass, stalk, threaten, intimidate, or discriminate. Misuse can violate the law. Virginia places special limits on misuse of the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry, including criminal penalties under Va. Code § 9.1-918. Public registry information exists for safety and awareness, not vigilantism or unlawful discrimination.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and does not create a consumer report, credit report, or official background check. Its advertising partners are not presented as services for an FCRA-regulated decision. A visitor must not use site or linked-tool information to:

  • Decide whether to hire or fire someone
  • Screen potential renters or housing applicants
  • Judge creditworthiness or set insurance premiums
  • Determine who qualifies for licenses, permits, or government programs
  • Do anything else that falls under FCRA rules

A lawful regulated-purpose check must come from an authorized, compliant provider or the official Virginia Department of State Police channel applicable to that purpose.

5. No Legal Advice

The material is general information, not legal advice. Only a licensed Virginia attorney can advise how a charge, conviction, warrant, expungement, or sealing rule applies to a specific person.

6. No Warranties

All material and functions are provided "as is." No warranty is made that:

  • The information here is accurate, complete, or current at any given time
  • The site will stay up and running without interruptions
  • Our pages are free of errors, bugs, or security holes
  • Results from our partner search tools will be thorough or accurate

Charges, dispositions, custody entries, and access rules can change. A page may therefore have a gap or stale detail. Nothing published here is an official statement of a Surry County court, the Sheriff, or another government body.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links can lead to sheriff, court, Virginia agency, legal-aid, and outside search services. Those destinations are independently operated. This site is not responsible for their content, availability, fees, security, or data practices. Their own terms apply after a visitor leaves this domain.

8. Intellectual Property

Text, graphics, logos, and code belong to Surry County Criminal History or the applicable content partner. Copying, modifying, distributing, or creating derivative work requires prior written permission.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent allowed by law, the operator is not liable for loss or damage arising from use of this website or reliance on material from it or a linked service.

10. Indemnification

A user agrees to defend and hold the operator harmless from claims, demands, or proceedings caused by that user's conduct or violation of these terms, including related legal costs.

11. Governing Law

Virginia law governs these terms. Any dispute tied to use of this site must be brought in a court with proper jurisdiction in Virginia.

12. Changes to These Terms

The operator may revise these terms. A revision takes effect when the new version is posted on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be restricted or ended at any time, with or without advance notice.

14. Severability

If one provision is held invalid or unenforceable, all remaining provisions continue. The affected term will be narrowed only as needed to make it enforceable.

15. Questions

Questions about these conditions may be submitted through the Contact page.
